What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

The pelvic floor is an integral part of the core stabilization system, which works intimately with the organs, bones and joints in the region. The pelvic floor, also known as the pelvic diaphragm, is composed of muscles and connective tissue that spans the area under the pelvis. When pelvic muscles become weak or tight, there is an imbalance within the surrounding area which may cause symptoms of pain, incontinence, and/or numbness/tingling.

We Are More Than Just Kegels

What does a session encompass?

Optimal Health offers specialized therapy aimed to treat pelvic dysfunction and to promote optimal pelvic health for both men and women. We take a dynamic approach to our pelvic floor rehabilitation by performing a detailed assessment to design a program combining functional training, manual therapy and exercise prescription.  The muscles can also be assessed to see if there is weakness, tension, pain, or lack of coordination. Patients may benefit from manual therapy approaches that may include internal pelvic muscle treatment or education in bowel and bladder habits, food and fluid, and self-care. We help both men and women to restore their pelvic floor and core to live actively, confidently and comfortably.
